International Conferences CCA-CCR 2011 - Information for Participants

Conference Schedule

The plan is to mix the programme for both conferences, CCA 2011 and CCR 2011 in a single session in one venue.

You can import this ICAL Calendar Link into your own calendar. Please note that "Johannesburg" in the calendar refers to the time zone, not to the place of the conference, which is, of course, Cape Town!

Here is the abstract booklet that will be distributed at the conference. You can also click on calendar entries above to see the respective abstract!

Traveling and Transport

Cape Town International Airport is a major airport in South Africa with direct connections to many international locations, mainly in Europe and Asia. The main airport in South Africa is O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, which has plenty of flight connections to locations all over the world and connections to Cape Town throughout the day (the flight Johannesburg - Cape Town takes about 2 hours). Here are some examples for non-stop flights to South Africa:

World Map

We recommend to book an airport shuttle prior to your arrival. We have an agreed conference discount of R275 (first person, R45 for each further person) with the company Magic Bus. Please arrange the airport shuttle directly with them using the conference code "CCA-CCR 2011" (we will arrange shuttles for invited speakers). Alternatively, metered taxis are usually safe, reliable, and comparatively cheap (R200-R250).

It is recommendable to check the visa conditions before booking a flight. Travellers from many countries can obtain a visa upon entry. However, some conditions are enforced very striclty, for instance, one has to have sufficiently many empty pages in the passport and the passport has to be valid long enough beyond the visit. Here, you can find some information on health and safety in South Africa.

Accommodation

As accommodation during the conference we recommend the following guesthouse:
Little Scotia Guest House (***), 5 Rustenburg Avenue, Rondebosch, Cape Town, South Africa
We will book rooms for invited speakers and we kindly ask all other participants to book directly with them (see contact details on the web page linked above). The room rates for January and February 2011 are as follows: The guest house is in walking distance to the conference venue (20 minutes), but farther away from the center of the city (15 minutes by taxi). Other guest houses in walking distance to the conference venue are: Another option is to choose some accommodation in the centre of the city, which is usually more expensive and not in walking distance of the conference venue. There is also no public transport besides taxis! Preferably, this accommodation should be in walking distance to the Hiddingh campus of UCT, which is connected to the main campus (where the conference venue is) by a shuttle bus. The following hotels are in walking distance to the Hiddingh campus:
